RCC Program
The RCC program will begin on the morning of Monday, October 27, and will continue into Tuesday morning, October 28. The agenda will feature multiple sessions and poster presentations covering diverse topics related to erythropoiesis and red cell biology.
Oral & Poster Presentation
We invite you to submit abstracts for poster and short oral presentations. The program will be developed by the RCC Scientific Committee, which will be responsible for designing the sessions and selecting topics based on the submitted oral presentations and posters.
Please, find a draft of the RCC program at RCC-EWIC Program.
EWIC Program
The EWIC 2023 Program will start on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 28, with the keynote address, trainee data blitz, and poster session. The program will resume on Wednesday, October 29, with a series of short presentations and lively roundtable discussions. The program will end in the afternoon with a brief business meeting and awards ceremony.
Keynote Address: Mark Gladwin, MD, Dean, University of Maryland School of Medicine
“Vasculopathy and Pulmonary Hypertension in Sickle Cell Disease”
Dr. Gladwin is the Dean of the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He is an expert in pulmonary hypertension and sickle cell disease. His scientific discoveries include the finding that the nitrite salt is a biological signaling molecule that regulates physiological and pathological hypoxic responses, blood pressure and flow, and dynamic mitochondrial electron transport. His work has described a state of resistance to NO in patients with sickle cell disease, malaria, transfusion of aged blood, and other hemolytic conditions, caused by scavenging of nitric oxide by hemoglobin that is released into plasma during hemolysis.
New EWIC Format!
As we continue to grow as a community and strive for the highest standards in our meetings, EWIC remains dedicated to promoting excellence, collaboration, and meaningful progress. With this commitment in mind, the EWIC senior leadership has recognized that the traditional EWIC format – centered around spontaneous round-table discussions – no longer fully supports our goals for dynamic interaction and broader engagement. To better serve our members, we will pilot a new meeting format this year. Each discussion session will begin with a few brief, curated oral presentations delivered by both experts and trainees in the field. These structured introductions aim to provide context and stimulate deeper, more productive conversations during our signature round-table discussions. We hope this refreshed format will enrich the dialogue, inspire new ideas, and encourage wider participation across the EWIC community.
Oral, Poster Presentation & Trainee Data Blitz
We invite you all – PIs and trainees – to submit abstracts for short oral and poster presentations. Based on submitted abstracts, the EWIC Scientific Committee will identify relevant topics to include in our meeting program and shape our round-table discussion sessions. Trainees selected for poster presentation will briefly showcase their research at our Trainee Data Blitz. You are welcome to bring new posters or recycle those presented at other recent meetings. On your registration form, you will be asked whether you are willing to present a short oral presentation, a poster, or both. Please, find a draft of the EWIC program at RCC-EWIC Program.
RCC-EWIC Trainee Travel Bursary
We hope to offer a limited number of competitive trainee travel bursaries/awards to help defray the costs of attending the RCC-EWIC Meeting 2025. Students, residents, and postdoctoral or clinical fellows are eligible. For consideration, please follow the registration instruction and submit your Trainee Award Application at RCC and/or EWIC by Friday, September 12.
