Identifying the stem cell microenvironment using state of the art microscopy and tools.

Indiana’s center supports four cores:

  • The Experimental Mouse Resources Core provides advanced resources for murine and human transplantation studies.
  • The Flow and Tissue Cytometry Core combines classical flow cytometry with unique imaging services, that include quantitative analyses of the spatial distribution and interactions of the cellular components of the hematopoietic niche.
  • The Hypoxia Core specializes in unraveling the ‘true nature’ of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell function, as well as those of stromal and immune cells, by examining these populations in their native milieu of low O2 tension;
  • The Enrichment Program provides a supportive environment to foster growth and development of students at all educational levels as well as young investigators pursuing research careers in nonmalignant hematology.

Cores

  • Experimental Mouse Resources Core
    Experimental Mouse Resources Core
    The Experimental Mouse Resources Core (EMRC) for the Cooperative Centers of Excellence in Hematology (CCEH) at Indiana University provides CCEH investigators advanced resources for conducting in vivo studies of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell function.

  • Flow and Tissue Cytometry Core
    Flow and Tissue Cytometry Core
    The core provides both flow cytometric and tissue imaging services that extend the interrogation of hematopoietic cells to include quantitative analyses of the spatial distribution of cells and cell-cell interactions during different conditions of nonmalignant hematopoiesis.

  • Hypoxia Core
    Hypoxia Core
    The Hypoxia Core of the IU School of Medicine Cooperative Center of Excellence in Hematology (IU-CCEH) provides resources for members of the IU-CCEH center, other centers, and outside investigators in the area of nonmalignant hematology to generate information critical for better understanding cellular, molecular, and biochemical aspects of hematopoietic stem, progenitor, immune and stromal cells under relevant physiological conditions (i.e., lowered oxygen tension).

  • Indiana Enrichment Core
    Enrichment Core
    The Enrichment Program of the Cooperative Centers of Excellence in Hematology at Indiana University School of Medicine (IU-CCEH) fosters interactions and promotes scientific exchange among investigators and trainees involved in the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) nonmalignant hematology research.
