PURPOSE
The NIDDK Cooperative Centers for Excellence in Hematology (CCEH) Travel Award is designed to support junior investigators and investigators who are new to the field of non-malignant hematology by facilitating travel to scientific meetings. This award aims to promote engagement with the national hematology and biomedical research community, foster professional development, and support the dissemination of research findings related to non-malignant hematology.
SCOPE OF SUPPORT
The Travel Award provides funds to facilitate domestic travel to:
- Hematology-focused scientific meetings, or
- Major biology-related meetings where the applicant is presenting work relevant to non-malignant hematology.
Supported travel is intended to enable awardees to:
- Present their research findings,
- Network with investigators in the broader hematology community,
- Identify new collaborators, resources, or technologies,
- Strengthen career development and future research directions in non-malignant hematology.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Early career investigator (e.g., instructor or assistant professor level),
- Postdoctoral fellows or senior trainees,
- Investigators new to the field of non-malignant hematology.
Applicants do not need to be affiliated with an existing CCEH center, but proposed activities must align with the mission of the CCEH program and NIDDK.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Applications will consist of a brief submission including:
- Abstract submitted to the meeting (required),
- Short statement (≤1/2 page) describing:
- The purpose of the proposed travel,
- How attendance will support professional development,
- Plans for networking, collaboration, or engagement with the hematology research community,
- How the meeting and presentation align with the applicant’s current or planned work in non-malignant hematology.
- Applicant biosketch
- Budget/Budget Justification (applicants may request up to $2,000 in funding)
- Line items and estimated costs for each category (registration, airfare, ground transportation, lodging, meal expenses).
FUNDING AND ALLOWABLE COSTS
- Awards will support domestic travel expenses only, including airfare, lodging, ground transportation, and meeting registration, consistent with institutional and federal travel guidelines.
- Award amounts may vary depending on travel needs and available funds.
- Award will be issued in the form of receipt-based travel reimbursement to the awardee.
REVIEW AND SELECTION
Applications will be reviewed based on:
- Relevance of the research to be presented to non-malignant hematology,
- Alignment of the proposed travel with professional development and networking goals,
- Potential for the award to expand the applicant’s engagement with the national hematology research community.
ACKNOWLEDGMENT
Awardees will be expected to acknowledge CCEH and NIDDK support in their meeting presentations, when appropriate.
