Contact PD/PI: John D. Phillips, Ph.D.

Dr. Phillips is a long-standing member of the hematology research community. His research is focused on heme synthesis and diseases associated with altered heme production. He will provide scientific, operational and administrative leadership for the HCCC and is responsible for guiding the Center toward its goals. In concert with Dr. Torok-Storb, Co-Director, Dr. Phillips will ensure a process for assessing the productivity, effectiveness and appropriateness of Center activities; ensure a sound selection process for oversight committee membership; and foster collaborations and scientific opportunities among the four CCEH Center members. He will oversee all aspects of the Coordinating Center’s functioning and all elements of this grant to assure efficient use of resources. Both Drs. Phillips and Torok-Storb are the current Directors of CCEHs at their respective institutions and the experience gained from directing these successful CCEHs provides critical insight into the needs and day-to-day oversight of the HCCC.
