The Laboratory Specialist will perform research under the Vascular Medicine Institute. The research will
be to study the function of red cells in vitro or in vivo. May work individually or as a member of a team,
including application of generally accepted procedures, collection and preliminary analysis of data, and
recognition of and response to procedural problems. Conduct research projects requiring the
application of protocols and implements systems to ensure actions/decisions do not unduly obligate or
place the University in an adverse position. Appropriately balances expectations and needs of different
groups in the lab. Independently conducts experimental and organizational procedures and activities to
gain a better understanding of iron biology. Provides technical assistance with various research projects
being conducted by other members of the lab. The successful candidate will work independently as well
as assist lab members.
BA/BS in Biological Science or in related fields is highly recommended or the equivalent combination of
education and experience. Experience with animal maintenance and handling preferred. Knowledge of
standard biochemical research methodology, principles and procedures, the use and maintenance of
laboratory facilities and/or equipment, scientific approach and methodologies, skill in use of personal
